Backup Prevention

Backup Prevention

A sewer backup-homeowners worst nightmare! Sewer lines are normally never thought about, because we can’t see them on a daily basis. But in the event of a sewer backup, boy will you notice! From slow flowing drains to major overflow debris covering the floor, a sewer backup can wreak havoc on your home and belongings. The best way to deal with a sewer backup is to prevent one!

Maintain your sewer lateral-First of all, what is a sewer lateral? It is the pipeline between your house and the city’s sewer main. As a homeowner, it is your responsibility to ensure the line’s upkeep. Pro Tip-check your current homeowner’s policy to see if it includes a Sewage Backup Endorsement. If not, you can add this to your policy which will cover damages associated with sewage backup

Watch what you flush-paper towels, diapers, feminine products, and grease are the main culprits when it comes to a clog in the sewer line.  When grease cools, it solidifies and can majorly block the sewer line, forcing waste to back up. The other mentioned items take a long time to deteriorate and can sit in the line causing a back up. Prop tip-Install drain baskets or strainers to catch solid objects that might slip into the line

Install a sump pump-If you currently do not have a sump pump, we strongly recommend installing one. The purpose of a sump pump is to quickly

remove excess water, either from heavy rainfall or an emergency situation like a faulty appliance or sewer backup. Sump pumps are relatively inexpensive and can be installed easily. If you do have an existing sump pump, make sure to inspect it regularly to ensure it kicks on when needed. Pro tip-We recommend installing a submersible sump pump as opposed to a pedestal sump pump. The submersible pump can handle more volume and the motor is not susceptible to water damage

If you have experienced a sewer backup call for immediated assistance.

Covid-19 Impact

Covid-19 Impact

According to WEF, the scientific community has found no evidence of viable COVID-19 virus in wastewater systems.

Our testing wastewater for RNA strands of the corona virus might help tell local officials tel how widespread COVID-19 is in in the sanitary district community and whether infections are rising or falling. Known as “sewer surveillance” or “wastewater epidemiology” – wastewater professionals are once again working to protect public health

An important note – finding corona virus RNA in wastewater does not mean it is infectious virus. According to WEF, the scientific community has found no evidence of viable COVID-19 virus in wastewater systems.
